Affirm.

Rebekah and her family have always been book lovers. As Rebekah began exploring her gender identity and expression, a diverse bookshelf served as a powerful affirmation of the many different ways of being human. When Rebekah transitioned, it was even more important for her to find books in which she saw herself.

Educate.

The power of books went far beyond Rebekah. Picture books were an important tool for Rebekah in sharing her story with her family, friends, and community. They gave her language and courage. When a friend from school didn’t understand what it meant to be transgender, Rebekah was ready with a book to share.

Celebrate.

Advocating for positive representation through books in homes, classrooms, local libraries, and faith spaces is one of Rebekah’s passions. LGBTQ+ representation in books is important for all kids who can find freedom to show up more fully as themselves while also learning about the beautiful diversity of the world around them.

You can help.

In the “Mighty Rebekah” episode of Marvel’s Hero Project streaming on Disney Plus, viewers get to see part of a book drive Rebekah hosted in celebration of New Jersey’s LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum bill being signed into law. Many have reached out to see if Rebekah is still collecting books for the book drive. People want to know how they can contribute, and Rebekah couldn’t be more excited.

LGBTQ+ young people deserve to been seen, valued, and celebrated for who they are in all their uniqueness. Books can do that. They foster confidence, connection, and community.

LGBTQ+ young people also deserve peers who are taught about gender diversity and LGBTQ+ identities. Books can do that. They foster empathy, understanding, and appreciation of people who are different from us.

Books are bridges to empathy, possibility, courage, and hope.

Rebekah and her family have created an Amazon Wish List so that YOU can be a part of ensuring every young person has access to books with LGBTQ+ representation. You can click the link below to shop. Donated books will find homes in schools, community organizations, LGBTQ centers, faith communities, and local libraries across New Jersey and far beyond. Every single book has the power to change a young person’s life. Let’s make it happen.

In this time of Covid-19 where small businesses are being deeply impacted,
